Gov Otti prohibits heavy-duty vehicle mobility in Abia

In the wake of the deadly car accident at the Aba waterside bridge, heavy-duty vehicle movement in Aba and Umuahia between 7 a.m. and 8 p.m. has been banned by the Abia State government.

Tuesday saw four people killed and numerous more injured when a truck carrying containers failed to use its brakes, smashing a Toyota Sienna car and a tricycle.

The state administration sent its condolences to the crash victims’ families and prayed for the injured to heal swiftly and the souls of the deceased to rest in peace. It added that it has made efforts to get in touch with the victims’ families in order to offer them the necessary assistance.

During the tenure of former Governor Okezie Ikpeazu, heavy-duty vehicle traffic was forbidden in Aba and Umuahia from 7 a.m. to 8 p.m. But once he left the office, the drivers of the heavy-duty trucks ignored his orders.

The government announced the reinstatement of the old laws prohibiting heavy-duty vehicle movement inside the districts of Aba and Umuahia between 7 a.m. and 8 p.m. in a statement signed by Mr. Dodoh Okafor, Senior Special Assistant to the Governor on Public Communication.
