The Court of Appeal in Abuja has reversed the Nasarawa State Governorship Election Petition Tribunal’s decision to dismiss All Progressives Congress (APC) Governor Abdullahi Sule.
A three-judge panel of the court ruled that the tribunal erred in declining to rule on the legal issues raised in the APC and Sule’s objection, which challenged the tribunal’s jurisdiction to hear the petition by the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and its candidate, David Ombugadu, as well as the petition’s competence.
The court ruled that the petitioners in the tribunal, the PDP and Ombugadu, had failed to prove their charges of over-voting and non-compliance with the Electoral Act.
After ruling on the main appeal, the court is now ruling on the remaining three cross-appeals.
