The Court of Appeal affirmed Nasir Idris’s election as the legitimately elected governor of Kebbi State.
According to News24 Nigeria, the three governors are All Progressives Congress members.
The Court dismissed the appeal brought before it by the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, and its governorship candidate in Kebbi, Aminu Bande, for lack of merit on Friday evening.
The Appellate Court resolved all five arguments submitted for resolution in favor of the governor and against the PDP in a majority decision delivered by Justice Ndukwe Anyanwu.
Justice Anyanwu ruled that the allegations of fabrication of testimonials leveled against the State’s Deputy Governor, Abubakar Umar Tafida, had not been substantiated as required by law.
She also ruled that the claims of noncompliance with the provisions of the Electoral Act in the conduct of the election could not hold since the appellants failed to show how the allegations had a significant impact on the election.
Justice Anyanwu later upheld the decision of the Kebbi State Governorship Election Petitions Tribunal, which had earlier dismissed the PDP’s case and confirmed the governor’s election.
